Frequently Asked Questions about North Phoenix
I work in Downtown Phoenix. Is North Phoenix too far away?
Not for most people. Downtown Phoenix is about 30-45 minutes away from several areas in North Phoenix, depending on traffic. The Happy Valley area is the first area heading north from downtown Phoenix that has large new subdivisions, so many downtown commuters prefer this area. The Arrowhead area is also a good choice. Residents in Tramonto and Anthem should expect about a 45-60 minute drive.
How are the schools in North Phoenix?
Many of the North Phoenix schools belong to the Deer Valley School District, which as a whole boosts test scores well above the state average – Average AIMS test scores put students in the 82-86 percentile range for math and reading.
I’ve heard the traffic can get bad on I-17 in North Phoenix. Is that true
As in many outlying areas of the valley, highways have not kept up with new construction, and this is true of North Phoenix as well. However, heavy I-17 traffic in North Phoenix doesn’t necessarily correspond with commute hours. Instead, south-bound construction traffic in the late afternoon and traffic heading to and from Flagstaff on Fridays and Sundays can often bog down I-17 in North Phoenix. Expansion of I-17 is planned for late 2007.
What is there to do in North Phoenix?
Go boating or fishing at Lake Pleasant. Visit the Pioneer Museum and the Rock Art Museum. Have lunch and shop at the Happy Valley Town Center. Spend a hot day at Waterworld Safari. Golf at the Anthem Country Club.
