Make Sure Your Agent is Actually On Your Side
Do you know that every day people put their full faith and trust into their real estate agents not realizing that in some cases the agent actually has a fiduciary responsibility not to them but to the other party? The agent who greets you at a new home development or the designer who helps you select all those costly extras works for and represents the builder. Unless you diligently read the papers you are signing, ask the right questions before you sign, and monitor the price of “extras” you purchase, you could be over paying with huge markups. Having your own buyer’s agent doesn’t cost you anything, but often the builder doesn’t allow you to have representation unless you bring your buyer’s agent into the model homes the first time you visit.
